HOW TO RECAST A VIDEO

  1. Step 1

    Upload your video

Up to 30 seconds, with the people you want to replace clearly visible.

  2. Step 2

    Add your characters

Swap up to 4 people at once. Use one clear, well-lit photo for each new person. Add one photo to replace the main person, or up to four photos to replace up to four people at once, from left to right.

  3. Step 3

    Make your video

Pick the resolution, check the price on the button and generate. The new character takes over the movement, timing and audio of the original.

TIPS FOR A BETTER RECAST

  • Match the framing. If the video shows someone from head to toe, use a full-body photo; for a close-up, a clear face and shoulders.
  • One photo per person. With one photo, Recast replaces the most prominent person. With two to four photos, each photo replaces one person in the video, from left to right.
  • Keep it to one shot. Cuts and camera changes can confuse the swap.
  • Pick a character with a similar outline. The swap can follow the original person's silhouette, so long hair or a long coat in the video can carry over. In one of our tests, a short-haired character kept the dancer's long hair.
  • Start with a short clip. You pay for the length of your video, so test with a few seconds first.

RECAST, ANSWERED

How does Recast work?

You upload a video and one photo for each new person, up to four. The AI finds the main people in the video and redraws each one as the person in your photo, following the original movement, camera and timing. The original soundtrack is carried over.

How much does Recast cost?

Your first recast is free, with no sign-up: one character photo, a clip of up to 15 seconds, at 480p. One free recast per person. After that you pay with credits, by the length of your video, and the rate depends on your video and photos. With one photo and a clip of 15 seconds or less, it is 10 credits a second at 480p and 20 at 768p, and clips under 3 seconds count as 3 seconds. With two to four people, or a clip longer than 15 seconds, it is 30 credits a second at 768p and 45 at 1080p, for clips of 5 to 30 seconds. The exact price shows on the button before you generate. Credits come in one-time packs, with no subscription, and new accounts get free credits to start.

How long does it take?

In our tests with one photo, a 15-second clip took about 3 minutes at 480p and about 6.5 minutes at 768p. Shorter clips are faster.

What is the difference between a character swap and a face swap?

Face swap only changes the face and keeps the original body, hair and clothes. Recast redraws the whole character, not just the face: body, outfit and style change too, so the person in your video can become someone completely different.

Can I swap multiple people in one video?

Yes, up to four. This multi-person character swap works with one photo for each new person; they replace the main people in your video from left to right. With one photo, Recast replaces the most prominent person, and on a clip of up to 15 seconds it is the cheapest option, at 480p or 768p. Recasts with two or more people, and clips longer than 15 seconds, are made at 768p or 1080p. The page picks the right setup automatically; there is nothing else to choose.

What makes a good video and photo?

A steady clip where the people you want to replace are clearly visible, and a sharp photo of each new person framed about the same way (full body for full-body shots). Crowds and people who overlap make the swap less reliable.

How is Recast different from GENJUTSU?

With two or more people, or a clip over 15 seconds, Recast and GENJUTSU use the same AI model. The differences: GENJUTSU lets you add a prompt to steer the result; Recast has no prompt, gives you one free recast without signing up, and with a single photo on a clip of 15 seconds or less it costs less and offers 480p.

Can I use Recast videos commercially?

You may use the videos generated for you, as long as your use is lawful and you have the rights to everything you uploaded, including permission from anyone who appears in the video or photo. Some AI models have their own license terms that also apply. See our Terms of Service.

Is this a deepfake tool?

Recast is made for creative work: skits, characters and your own content. You may only upload videos and photos you have the right to use, and you need permission from the people in them. Using it to impersonate, deceive, harass or defame anyone, or to make intimate or misleading content of real people, is against our Terms of Service and can get an account suspended.

Do I need editing skills?

No. Upload a video, add a photo and generate. There is no timeline, masking or tracking to set up.
